Water

The City has two water supply sources. The City has a wholesale contract with Baldwin City, which purchases its water from the City of Lawrence. Raw water is pulled from Clinton Lake and the Kansas River and treated by the City of Lawrence. The City installed a booster pump station along US-56 to provide better flow and pressure for this source in 2000. The contract with Baldwin City expires in 2017, and the City has already started reviewing options for future supply from Baldwin City.

The City also purchases raw water from Hillsdale Lake from the Kansas Water Office. This water is treated by Miami County Rural Water District No. 2 and is transported to the City by Johnson County Rural Water District No. 7.

The City maintains three elevated storage tanks that amounts to approximately 400,000 gallons of stored capacity. The approximate yearly water consumption through the City's water system is 40 MGY (million gallons per year), which amounts to roughly 0.11 MGD (million gallons per day).
