Street Maintenance

The City of Edgerton is responsible for the maintenance of approximately ten linear miles of streets and roads. There are several methods the City's Public Works Department uses to maintain streets including:
  • Crack Sealing;
  • Asphalt Patching;
  • Pothole Repair;
  • Chip Sealing; and
  • Asphalt Overlay.
The City also regularly cleans the ditches on streets that do not have curb and gutters. This helps ensure that stormwater properly flows during and after a rain storm. Standing water increases the changes that a street will deteriorate at a faster rate.

Street sweeping is done on streets that are curbed and guttered. This removes dirt and debris from the street, which keeps it from being deposited into the stormwater system. By keeping dirt and debris out of the stormwater system, the City helps prevent streams and lakes from taking on more sediment. Reducing sediment infiltration helps maintain water quality within the Hillsdale Watershed.
